There is always a lot going on at the Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre. In its role as an interpretive centre for the maritime history of the Cowichan region, the Centre has become a major tourist attraction for the area.

Volunteers are an integral part of its operations. They are essential to support the numerous activities and special events throughout the year. The Centre has only one full-time staff member who co-ordinates the daily activities of the Centre and although Mel is an absolute marvel, even she can’t do everything.

The Centre needs your help- Do you enjoy meeting and chatting with people?

Are you the ’hands-on’ type? Perhaps you would like to put your skills toward maintaining the Centre’s boats or other needed work around the Centre.

What about assisting with special events? This year’s Wooden Boat Festival is scheduled for the weekend of July 6, 2019 and will require lots of man/woman hours to make it a success.  There are opportunities to be part of the Festival planning committee as well as working on specific aspects of the festival,  eg: the Seagull Race, Remote controlled boats, Kids boat building, etc…

Many of our members have an extensive knowledge of the history of this area and the Museum itself and would be fascinating tour guides for school groups and other groups visiting the Centre.

There is always room for exercising your creative muscles by refurbishing displays and creating new exhibits.

Volunteers are always needed to sell raffle tickets on the Lapstrake Dinghy at the various Boat Festivals and Fairs in the area.

Perhaps you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors or a member of a Committee.

You likely have some great ideas as well - things that will improve the Centre’s ability to demonstrate our maritime heritage.  We would love to hear about them.

This is your Maritime Centre and needs the assistance of everyone.
